Worship in Action

Connection. Transformation. Mission.

  • Worship in Action

Worship in Action is a long-term initiative to integrate a global, missional vision into Tallowood’s enterChange worship gatherings. Every three months, a new missions focus will intentionally and pervasively engage the people of Tallowood in unifying activities that promote worship as a way of life. This blog lets you track our community's journey to glorify God by participating in his mission in the world.

PRAISE THE LORD!

Posted by ScottB on 1 October 2007

We are so grateful about the ways that the Lord has moved among us over these past three months, resulting in a great outpouring of love for him and for the people of Honduras.

We wanted to send 50 pastors to our November ministry training conference–and God provided through you enough for 51 pastors!

We wanted to pay for 50 students to attend Koinonia Baptist School–and God provided through you enough for 57 students!

And though we didn’t have a particular goal in mind for the collection of clothes for the men’s drug rehab center in Tegucigalpa, we never expected the mountain of generosity that you gave.  You gave a LOT of clothes.  In fact, you have to see it to believe it . . .

Take some time right now to thank God for this display of grace towards us, that we would learn to live and love the way that he does.

And ask him to prepare you for the opportunities ahead. We’re really excited about our next Worship in Action emphasis that will start in October. In his providence, he’s given us something timely and significant to be a part of.

Only Three Students to Go!

Posted by ScottB on 17 September 2007

We need to pay for only three more students in order to reach our goal of sending fifty children from low-income families to the Koinonia Baptist School for the year!

That’s only $360 more dollars.

That’s less than $1 per person who attends our enterChange services every weekend.

Let’s see if we finish this goal this week!

Oh, and you’ve brought a mountain of clothes. We already have as much as we can take on the trip in November. Thank you for your generosity in putting your Worship in Action!

A HUGE Update!

Posted by ScottB on 10 September 2007

As of this morning, we’ve met our goal of paying for fifty pastors to attend the November training conference at no cost to them!

We’ve also given enough for 43 students to attend Koinonia Baptist School for a year–only seven away from meeting our goal!

And you all brought a mountain of clothes to support the ministry of the Christ-centered drug rehab facility in Tegucigalpa.  (We’re still trying to gather it all up in one place!)

We are grateful for how God is moving in our church-community–and grateful for all of your obedience in expressing God’s worth through lives of sacrificial generosity.

Exciting New Development for November Trip

Posted by ScottB on 5 September 2007

In November, Tallowood is sending a mission team to Tegucigalpa, Honduras, to support the three ministries with whom we’re partnering during this Worship in Action emphasis.  But now, in addition to delivering the school supplies and clothes and organizing the Pastor’s Training Conference, we are also going to partner with the Koinonia Baptist Church (that also sponsors the school) in order to put on a Vacation Bible School program for the children in that neighborhood.

Our own Children’s Minister, Carol Kleckner, will be leading this effort, but we need others who are ready to work alongside her Nov 2-9, 2007.

Please call the Missions Office at Tallowood (713-468-8241) if you would like more information about this trip and to let us know of your interest.

Hurricane Felix Hits Honduras

Posted by ScottB on 4 September 2007

For most Houstonians, summer means watching the weather for developing hurricanes.  SO you already may be well aware that a Category-5 Hurricane Felix has hit the Central American coast.  Hardest hit has been Nicaragua, but Honduras will receive severe rainfall as well, particularly in regions most vulnerable to flooding and mudslides.  These are also some of the poorer regions of the country  where they are likely to be least prepared to take the necessary precautions.

Be praying for the people of Honduras during these days.  Specifically ask that Honduran churches would know how to serve their communities with the love of Christ during these days.  And pray that our church would know how to serve them as they help shelter and feed those who will be most affected.

Everybody-Bring-Your-Men’s-Clothes-to-Church Weekend

Posted by ScottB on 27 August 2007

There’s nothing like a self-explanatory name.

As we are collecting men’s clothes for the Drug Rehab Center in Honduras, we wanted to have a particular weekend that would focus our efforts to bring as many men’s clothes as possible to provide tangible support to recovering drug addicts as they are working to put their lives pack together by God’s grace.

So bring your men’s clothes to the re:Action Center on SEPTEMBER 8 and 9.

If you are wondering what to bring, bring almost anything: shirts, pants, socks, undergarments, light jackets.  About the only thing we don’t want is shoes.

But as you bring something, remember that this offering is to put Worship in Action.  We want to offer to God something that communicates the worth that we have found in him, which means that ratty old socks with holes in the heels and toes probably aren’t our best options.  Same for the leisure suits.

We’ll look forward in a couple of weeks to celebrating the mountain of generosity that God inspires in us!

There’s a Part for All of Us

Posted by ScottB on 18 August 2007

Several have asked what they can do to put Worship in Action if they can’t give a full $120 to help pay school costs for a child or $75 for a pastor to attend the training. The answer is a lot of things! Part of the joy of this effort is that we are all sharing in it together. As each member of our Body makes its contribution, we carry out the ministry that God has for us.

To give you an ideas for how each part can play a part, check out the lists of costs below.

Koinonia Baptist School

  • Backpack: $6
  • Shirt: $8
  • Pens, pencils, erasers: $9
  • Notebooks: $15
  • Pants, a skirt or a pair of shoes: $16
  • P.E. uniform: $20
  • Textbooks: $30

Pastor’s Training Conference

  • Housing: $18
  • Transportation: $21
  • Meals: $36

re:Action Update

Posted by ScottB on 13 August 2007

Here’s where we are so far . . .

We’ve already paid for 7 students to attend school next year!

We’ve given the cost for 4 pastors to attend the ministry training conference in November!

This is a great result, but we still have some ground to cover.

In the next seven weeks, we still want to pay for 43 more students and 46 more pastors.

You don’t have to give the full amount for either of these goals to participate.  Maybe you can give the $8 needed for a student’s uniform shirt or the $21 it will cost for a pastor to travel to Tegucigalpa for the training.

Worship in Action is about our communal expression of worship, about each of us doing more together than we would do apart.

Stop by the re:Action Center this weekend to bring your offering.

Current Worship in Action Opportunities: Honduras

Posted by ScottB on 23 July 2007

Here’s a quick summary of the ways that you can put Worship in Action as we seek to bless the people of Honduras in Jesus’ Name.

1. Give all or part of the $120 it will cost for a poor student in Honduras to attend a Christian school started by the Koinonia Baptist Church

2. Donate men’s clothes to help recovering drug-addicts who are working to rebuild their lives in an intensive, Christ-centered rehab program

3. Contribute all of part of $75 to help pay the transportation, room and board costs for a Honduran pastor to attend a ministry training seminar put on by a Tallowood mission team in November

In the next ten weeks, we want to pay for the school costs for fifty students, pay for fifty pastors to come to the training seminar in Tegucigalpa, and collect as much men’s clothes as we can cram into the suitcases that the team will take in November.

Talk in your families and your circles of friends about how you can give towards these needs (over and above your regular tithes and offerings to the wider ministries of the Tallowood).

Bring your financial donations and your clothes to the Re:Action Center before or after enterChange at the Tallowood Center (Saturdays) or in the Gym (Sundays).

(To learn more about these ministries and the needs they fill, watch the video in the post below.)
